How to Figure Out Unknown Words
Writing
Personal Opinion Writing
We read books and discussed how the books made us feel. We used feelings words like surprised, excited, interested, confused, and upset. Then we drew faces to match our feelings and drew and wrote about the part in the book that made us feel that way. |
Non-Fiction Alphabet Book
We read Alphabet books and discussed what alphabet books have: letters, words, pictures that begin with the letters, etc. Then we did some writing together and finally, students wrote their own page for a class alphabet book. |
Informational Writing
We read books about animals, saw a presentation, and went to the zoo. Then we drew a picture and wrote facts about one animal we learned about. |
Personal Narrative
Students will be expected to draw a picture and tell and write a simple non-fiction (true) story of an event - something that happened to them. You can practice this at home by having your child retell an event that happened recently, such as a trip to the store or the park. For example: My family went to the store. We bought the groceries for dinner. I put the broccoli in the cart. We paid and went home on the bus. We made broccoli for dinner. It was delicious. I like being with my family. |
